The new trailer for ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ – her big screen debut – has just dropped, with Turner playing a pivotal part as the teenage Jean Grey. In the slightly convoluted timeline of X-Men movies, ‘Apocalypse’ take place in the 1980s after the events of ‘Day of Future Past’ and ‘First Class’ but before the original trilogy (‘X-Men’, ‘X2’ and ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’).
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Turner touched upon the differences between her performance and that of Famke Jansson’s, who played an older incarnation of the character in the original trilogy. “The difference between this and Famke’s Jean Grey is she’s young and isolated and so insecure and very alienated – even from the other mutants – because she’s so powerful.”
In television news, a new trailer for the hotly anticipated sixth season of ‘Game of Thones’ has also emerged, along with tantalisingly mysterious promotional images on HBO’s social media. One of these images on the network’s Facebook page features a number of major characters appearing to be dead, including Turner’s character Sansa Stark, who the actress revealed will apparently have her “biggest” season yet on the show at EW’s SAG awards party.
Beyond entertainment news, Sophie Turner also appeared this week in a series of campaign videos for the International Rescue Committee with the tagline ‘Rescue Has No Boundaries.’ The public-service announcements mark five years since the Syrian crisis began and aim to raise emergency donations for the millions of refugees displaced from their homes. Turner appears alongside her fellow ‘Thrones’ stars Lena Headey, Maisie Williams, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, John Bradley, Liam Cunningham, DeObia Oparei, Tom Wlaschiha, Eugene Simon and Oona Chaplin.
‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ is released on May 27th; ‘Game of Thrones’ premieres April 24th on HBO.
